All Details of the Way of Winter Scenario in the Game Once Human
The new scenario in the game Once Human focuses on PvE (Player vs Environment) and offers an expanded survival experience. The Way of Winter scenario introduces new mechanics compared to the previous scenario Manibus and provides fresh content to keep things exciting.
In this scenario, there is a stronger focus on storytelling and PvE encounters, featuring new enemies, new locations to explore, and new equipment to use. Here’s what you need to know about this scenario:
New Map and Enemies in Way of Winter
This scenario opens up the northern regions of Nalcott Island, which are less forgiving than the southern lands. Players will explore tundras, fjords, snow mountains, and all within a new storyline revolving around an antagonistic faction called Vultures. There are new enemies from the Deviations creatures, including the ghostly Shadow variants that are impervious to damage.
The Way of Winter scenario is limited to this northern area, meaning familiar places like Brookham will not be accessible, and there will be new strongholds and prisons instead.
Temperature Mechanism in Way of Winter
The game includes a temperature control mechanism, where players must maintain their warmth alongside their nutrition and mental health. Dynamic weather significantly affects the in-game temperatures.
Warm clothing and good food can protect against the cold, while Thermal Towers can be built to provide warmth in wide areas, and can also be used as defense points. Cooperation with other players is necessary to ensure the safety of the thermal towers.
New Weapons and Armor in Way of Winter
Players can now access the M416 weapon, the fastest among assault rifles, but with the least damage per shot. There are three types of M416, along with new versions of the ACS12 rifle and MG4 LMG:
- M416 – Scorched Earth (Rare):
Effect: There is a chance to cause a burning effect when hit.
- M416 – Autumn Equinox (Epic):
Effect: After 7 hits, creates a Fortress Warfare area. While in this area, the player regenerates health points (HP) every second.
If health points are above 75%, the player gains an increase in weapon damage.
- M416 – Silent Anabasis (Legendary):
Effect: There is a chance to unleash a frost vortex when hit.
When targets are hit with the frost vortex, an ice crystal is produced that can be shot or left to shatter automatically, causing damage in a specific area.
Icicle damage increases and accumulates up to 15 times when the ice crystal shatters.
- ACS12 – Pyroclasm Starter (Legendary):
Effect: There is a chance to cause a burning effect when hit.
There is a chance to generate a Deviant Particle when hit, which can be collected to enter a Charged state.
Upon reloading the weapon in the Charged state, all ammunition is replaced with “Dragon’s Breath” bullets that cause Blaze damage.
Weapon reloads during the Charged state increase Blaze damage for each charge layer until the next reload.
- MG4 – Conflicting Memories (Legendary):
Effect: Releases shrapnel after every 12 shots.
For every 40 shots fired, the number of shrapnel-hit parts is increased by one up to 4 parts.
For every additional 15 shots fired over 100, shrapnel damage is increased.
The weapon has a +40 ammo capacity.
These weapons feature special effects that help players deal with enemies in unique ways and enhance their chances in battles, especially in PvE scenarios.
New Armor in Way of Winter
Two new sets of legendary armor and two pieces of main armor have been added:
(One piece) – Increases resistance to cold and heat by +2.5.
(Two pieces) – When dealing elemental damage, gains a Warm Sensation. The more quantities accumulated, the higher the elemental damage inflicted up to 5 quantities.
(Three pieces) – Gain a “Warmth” state (+18% elemental damage) when the temperature is between 10°C and 30°C.
(Four pieces) – Considered in a Warmth state when reaching 5 quantities of Warm Sensation, granting an additional +7% elemental damage when the temperature is between 10°C and 30°C.
- Snow Panther Set:
(One piece) – Reduces Torso damage by +10%.
(Two pieces) – When near ally areas or allies, gain increased melee attack, status damage, and weapon damage.
(Three pieces) – Defeating an enemy in ally areas accumulates bonuses for melee attack, status damage, and weapon damage, up to 3 times.
(Four pieces) – While in ally areas, sentry turrets deal 50% more damage within a 7-meter range.
- Fire Rune Boots:
When a nearby enemy is hit with a burning effect, there is a 50% chance for a Deviated Particle to appear. Collecting this particle increases Blaze damage for 15 seconds.
- Snow Camo Gloves:
When shattering an ice crystal, four additional ice missiles are launched at nearby enemies.
These armors provide different features that suit various scenarios in the game, such as increasing resistance to environmental factors or enhancing offensive power in specific areas.
New Deviants in Way of Winter
Several new Deviants have been added in this scenario, along with many already available creatures from Manibus and Evolution’s Call. As usual, players must find them in the world or complete tasks from Lowe. The new Deviants include:
- Snowsprite:
Effect: Combat Deviant creature. Creates ice crystals that players can fire at to inflict damage in an area.
- Ice Pot:
Effect: Crafting Deviant creature. Produces sticky ice crystals.
- Gazocchio:
Effect: Territory Deviant creature. Protects your base, and the Gazocchio tool produced makes Shadow enemies vulnerable to damage.
- Tar Pudding:
Effect: Territory Deviant creature. Can extract crude oil or operate refining facilities.
- Hydronaut Fish:

- Invincible Sun:
