Ali Baba launches a translation tool with artificial intelligence

The international arm of the giant Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba has announced the launch of an updated version of the “Markoummti” translation tool that relies on artificial intelligence, considering that this version surpasses the products offered by Google, DeepL, and chatgpt.

The new translation tool is an update to a product that was unveiled about a year ago and has gained wide acceptance, with around five hundred thousand commercial users. Sellers in different countries can use this tool to create product pages in the targeted market language.

In an interview with CNBC, Kaifu Zhang, Deputy Head of the International Digital Commerce Group at Alibaba and Head of the company’s Artificial Intelligence Initiative, stated that the new release relies entirely on large linguistic models, allowing it to adapt to industry culture and terms. specific.

Zhang added that “the goal is to help merchants make profits, because the better the performance of merchants, the more beneficial the platform.”

The Alibaba translation tool uses its own model known as Qwen and supports fifteen languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Ukrainian.

Zhang expressed his expectations regarding a “great demand” for the tool from markets in Europe and the Americas, noting that emerging markets represent an important area for use.

Since the launch of the first version of the AI-powered translation tool last fall, merchants have used this tool for more than one hundred million product listings. Like other AI-based services, the tool charges merchants based on the amount of translated text.

Zhang refused to disclose the cost of the updated release, but noted that it has been included in some service packages for merchants who want to reach users abroad.

Alibaba’s international business includes platforms such as AliExpress and Lazada, which primarily target Southeast Asia. The international unit reported sales growth of thirty-two percent to reach $4.3 billion in the quarter ended in June compared to the previous year.
