How to Choose RAM on Black Friday
When it comes to RAM, you will primarily choose between DDR4 and DDR5, and older computers ranging from 4 to 5 years or older are likely to use DDR4. It should be noted that the two are not interchangeable, and if you are using DDR4, the motherboard will not accept DDR5 RAM, meaning upgrading RAM is likely to mean upgrading the motherboard as well. Another thing to consider is the amount of RAM you actually need. This can be a somewhat complex question depending on many variables and even your own usage, but in short, 8GB is the absolute minimum, with 16GB being ideal, unless you have a gaming laptop or PC, in which case 16GB of RAM is the minimum. In both cases, you can definitely go above that, and it will give you a smoother daily experience, but it is not essential outside of specific uses, such as CAD or programming work.
Also worth mentioning is that mismatching RAM speeds can be an issue, so make sure they always operate at the same MHz and CL if you can.
