The Gathering gives us a brief and wonderful glimpse of Final Fantasy Crossover Game.

Magic: The Gathering has recently been on a Fortnite-esque roll, collaborating with big franchises like Lord of the Rings, Marvel, and Warcraft. Now, we have a new look at their upcoming collaboration with Square Enix’s best-selling RPG series, Final Fantasy.

In a recently uploaded video on YouTube, Square Enix producer Shoichi Ichikawa and Wizards of the Coast product engineer Zakeel Gordon released a Nintendo Direct-inspired teaser video to hype up the collaboration between the two massive franchises. In the exciting video, Ichikawa revealed that the partnership will include characters from the original Final Fantasy all the way to the recently released Final Fantasy XVI. You can check out their video below.

“We believe that this mix of the epic storytelling of Final Fantasy and the strategic gameplay of Magic: The Gathering will be the most thrilling entertainment ever,” said Ichikawa. “For us at Wizards of the Coast, Final Fantasy represents a naturally rich universe perfectly suited for Magic gameplay,” added Gordon.

Perhaps the most exciting tidbit from Magic: The Gathering‘s Final Fantasy collaboration reveal is the characters from its vast series getting sleek cards. In the middle of the video, Ichikawa revealed that the roster will include the following characters: Terra (Final Fantasy VI), Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII), Noctis (Final Fantasy XV), and Cloud (Final Fantasy VII). Ichikawa also teased famous monsters like giants and chocobos that will be part of the collection. Below is a detailed look at more of the cards that will come with the special collaboration set.

If fans were already sitting on the edge of their seats for the Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy collaboration, Gordon continued to amp up the excitement by revealing that the team will feature “the largest collection of Final Fantasy artwork ever in one game.”

“You will see artwork from Magic artists alongside classic illustrations from the legendary Final Fantasy franchises,” said Gordon. “Artists, plus stunning new pieces made specifically for this set.”

“As a producer and Magic,” said Ichikawa, “I am confident that this collection will be extremely amazing.”

Final Fantasy and Magic: The Gathering will release the special collaboration set on June 13, 2025.
