Why You Might Need to Buy a New Router and Replace Your Current One?

In the beginning, let me inform you about a topic we previously reviewed, which is why I bought a router for $185 and features in the router that you need to know about. I reviewed features found in routers that you need to be aware of in order to get a router that suits your future needs. As for the router I purchased, which is the Linksys XAC1200, I do not recommend buying it despite its unique features and great capabilities, the Wi-Fi signal in this router is very weak even after adjusting the settings, it did not even reach the signal strength of my old and very weak ThomsonE5D4A8 router. But let’s forget all of this because today I want to tell you why you should change your old router and buy a newer one because some people are satisfied with their current router since it works and provides internet connectivity, so there’s no problem with that! But the issue is a bit bigger than you think, so let’s analyze and present the matter fully.

For most users, as long as the router works for you, why bother even taking a look at it? Just let it work since it’s working! But what you may not realize is that updating and changing your router to a newer and better one will mean more important features we discussed before, such as a stronger Wi-Fi signal and greater capabilities in customizing and adjusting the Wi-Fi to work in your favor, in addition to higher internet connection quality.

And some might tell me now that the router I bought provides a weaker signal than the old one, so why do I recommend changing it? There is a significant difference between signal strength and quality, as my previous router provided a longer but weak signal in all cases with slow browsing and downloading speeds, while the current router may not reach a longer distance but it provides better quality and speed in the short range. This is the difference between 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz, as we explained in a previous topic.

(A topic I believe is important – Warning against connecting to any free Wi-Fi hotspot)

As for the second point I want to clarify through my experience is that some problems with routers require replacement, as with my old ThomsonE5D4A8 router, when multiple computers are connected to the router, it restarts continuously and annoyingly at intervals. After researching and experimenting, I found that the firmware of my router is primarily responsible for this issue, and updating to a rare firmware version solved this issue. The firmware, for those who do not know, is the program stored on the router that you customize and interact with protocols and more, stored on the memory chip in the router. The point of this experience is that changing your router is not the first choice, but it should always be considered. And using the router for more than a year with this issue and continuous restarts was not easy, and I believe that changing the router would have been less of a hassle than what I went through, honestly.

Also, some accuse telecommunications companies of having the worst internet in the world, but the reality is that in some cases, as I mentioned above, the issue may be due to the router because the firmware is not good from the manufacturer or needs an update, causing the router to restart multiple times because the software it operates on is poor. I’m not saying that Arab telecommunications companies provide the best internet connection, it is the worst, but sometimes the problem lies with us.

Also note that internet speeds in our Arab world are weak, so buying the best router in the world will not benefit you in this case, but if you have a commercial router with a 24 Mbps internet speed and you want to download at 3 Mbps per second, then you will definitely need to buy a good router.

In conclusion, I want to leave the decision to you, buying an advanced router may provide you with additional features and great capabilities, but it does not increase the internet speed available to you from the company. So if you have a 2 Mbps internet speed and you are downloading at a speed of 220 kilobytes per second, you should not change the router for a higher speed because you already receive the speed specified by the company in full. And always remember not to buy what you do not need, but buy only what you need.
