Create a Spotify Playlist on Desktop App (Mac or PC)
Here’s how to create a new playlist on the Spotify desktop application on your PC or Mac.
Step 1: Click on the + Create Playlist button located on the left side of the window.
Step 2: Spotify will automatically give it a temporary name, like “MyPlaylist#24.” Change it to your playlist’s name.
Step 3: You can also choose to give a description to your playlist or add an image to represent it.
Note: If you do not add a custom playlist image, Spotify will automatically create an image based on album covers from your playlist.
Step 4: Add songs to your playlist using the Search bar for artists, songs, or podcast episodes you want to add.
Step 5: When you find what you are looking for, click on the Add button located on the right of the title.
Step 6: Alternatively, you can add songs to your playlists while browsing Spotify. If you find a song you want to add, whether it’s from another playlist or a recommended track from Spotify, simply click on the three dots menu next to the song and select Add to Playlist. Choose the playlist you want it added to.
Create a Spotify Playlist on Android or iOS
Creating a playlist on your smartphone or tablet is very similar to the desktop experience.
Step 1: Select your Library tab at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2: Tap on the plus sign icon at the top right of the screen.
Step 3: The dialogue box will ask you to name your playlist. Name your playlist, then click on Create.
Step 4: Click on Add Songs button to start searching for artists and tracks to add to your playlist.
Step 5: When you find the song you want, click on the plus sign icon next to it to add it. That’s it.
Edit and Share Your Playlists (Desktop and Mobile)
You can do a lot with your playlists, like sharing them with friends, making them collaborative so others can add to them, and downloading them to listen offline. These steps are largely the same for both desktop and mobile app experiences, so we’ve included them together here.
Remove a Song: Right-click on the song in your playlist or select/press on the three-dot icon located to the right of the song information, then select Remove from this Playlist.
Download Your Playlist: Go to your playlist, then click or press on the Download arrow icon at the bottom of the screen. On the desktop app, you can also right-click on the playlist name on the left side of your screen, then select Download from the menu. Your playlist can now play without an internet connection. Note that this feature is only available to premium members.
Make Your Playlist Private or Public: To change whether your playlist is visible to others on Spotify, open your playlist and click or press on the three-dot button located below the playlist name; it will be next to the Play button. Then, choose either Make Public or Make Private to change its current status.
Make Your Playlist Collaborative: Want others to be able to edit or add to your playlist? Click on the little head and shoulders icon with a small plus sign or select the three-dot button located below the playlist name, then select Invite Collaborators. You will be presented with several ways to send an invitation to someone – link, WhatsApp, text message, Messenger, and more. Once they are added, you will see their profile icons attached to your playlist.
Share with Friends: To share your playlist, click or press on the three-dot button next to the playlist name. Then, scroll down to the Share option – here, you can choose how you want to share your playlist. For a simple web link, select Copy Link.
Delete a Playlist: To completely delete your playlist, click or press on the three-dot button located below the playlist name. Then, select the Delete Playlist button, and press Delete again to confirm.
