Netflix closes Team Blue studio dedicated to AAA games

Netflix has closed down Team Blue studio, the development team dedicated to working on AAA games, according to Game File report, the studio located in Southern California is no longer in existence.

For the past two years, Netflix had been attracting a number of seasoned developers to join the studio, which was reportedly working on a multi-platform original AAA game (game with the highest production budget in the industry).

The studio was launched in October 2022, where Netflix appointed Shacko Sony, former executive producer of Overwatch game, in charge, and in April 2023, veteran Joseph Staten, who had worked as a writer and cinematic director on the first two Halo games and served as the head of creative for Halo Infinite, joined Sony before stepping down to join Netflix studio.

In May 2023, the company confirmed that they had hired Raf Grasetti, former artistic director at Sony’s Santa Monica Studio and previously worked on God of War series, and according to the report, the three have now left Netflix and the studio has been closed.

Netflix has been trying to establish a foothold in the video game market for some time now, offering mobile games through its Netflix app over the past few years, but it seems their journey to produce AAA games has ended before it began.
