Google undergoes a restructuring of its leadership with major changes in positions.
Google has announced a major change in its leadership, with the company’s CEO Sundar Pichai informing employees on Thursday that Prabhakar Raghavan, the Senior Vice President overseeing Search, Ads, and other key sectors, will now take on the role of Chief Technology Officer.
Raghavan has been in charge of Ads and Commerce since 2018, and was promoted to Head of Search and Assistant in 2020. Nick Fox, who was part of Raghavan’s leadership team, will now lead the Search, Ads, Geo, and Commerce divisions following this change.
Fox has contributed to the launch of products like Google Fi and RCS messaging service, according to Pichai.
As part of the restructuring, the Gemini app department led by Sissie Hsiao will be merged with Google DeepMind under the leadership of Demis Hassabis. The Google Assistant team will also join the Platforms and Devices team.
These changes come at a critical time for Google, as it works to strengthen its position as a key player in the field of artificial intelligence, while also facing the possibility of being broken up by the US government after being accused of search monopoly.
