Switching between night mode and regular mode in Windows 10 with just one click.

Years ago, the term Dark Mode didn’t exist in the world of technology and among users. However, today dark mode has become a necessary option that must be available on all systems, websites, and even programs and applications. Even some browser extensions now have the dark mode option. Personally, I use dark mode across the entire Windows system and leave it activated all the time, as it really helps to spend more time in front of device screens without feeling tired or stressed due to white light. On the other hand, some people, and perhaps you are one of them, prefer to activate dark mode only at specific times, such as late at night or when they feel tired or for any other reason.
But the problem here is that you have to repeatedly open Windows settings and switch between dark mode and light mode manually, which can be tedious especially when there are small tools like Nightlight that shorten the entire process with just a click of a button. Want to know how? Then keep reading the article until the end.

Nightlight is a small, open-source tool that helps you switch between dark mode and light mode on Windows 10 with just one click. After installing this tool on your device, the tool icon will appear with open programs in the notification area on the taskbar. From there, you can quickly switch between dark and light modes without the need to open any additional settings, thus saving you the hassle of manual switching and opening Windows settings every time.

1 How to Install Nightlight Tool

Pay attention to this part a little bit, as installing the Nightlight tool may be unfamiliar to some. First, go to the download page of the latest version of the tool and click on the release-x.x.x.x.tar file to start downloading it. Then, unzip the downloaded compressed file and you will get a folder with the same name. After accessing the folder, open the RUN_ME file and click on the Install button in the window that appears. You will be asked to download and install the .NET Desktop Runtime if it is not already installed on your device so that you can run the tool, click Yes in the window that prompts you to do so.
Your web browser will now open, specifically the official page for downloading the .NET Desktop Runtime. On the Run desktop apps side, download the file that matches your device by clicking the Download button. After the download is complete, open the file and start the installation process until the end.
Now go back to the RUN_ME file and open it again and complete the installation process of the Nightlight tool until the end, which will only take a few seconds. After that, the Nightlight tool icon will appear directly on the taskbar in the notification area next to the time, from where you can start using the tool to switch between dark mode and light mode.

2 How to Use the Nightlight Tool

To switch between dark mode and light mode with just one click, left-click on the tool icon in the notification area. When you right-click on the icon, a menu will appear, from which we are interested in the Settings option. When you hover over Settings, a side menu will appear with two options, the first of which is enabled by default, Apps, Explorer, System, and the second is Start Menu & Taskbar, which will be disabled the first time.
This setting controls the switching locations from dark mode to light mode or vice versa, so when the Start Menu & Taskbar option is not enabled, this means that the switch will not affect the Start menu or the taskbar, and the same goes for system apps and file manager (Apps, Explorer, System). You can activate both options together if you want to apply the switch between modes to the entire Windows system without exception.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that the Nightlight tool is set to start automatically with the Windows operating system, and will thus remain open at all times in the notification area. Also, you can delete the installation folder and file you previously downloaded (release-x.x.x.x) as it is no longer needed.
