This Airbnb site will transport you from a horror-themed experience to your favorite scary movie

Halloween is approaching, which means you and everyone you know should be looking for fun ways to celebrate our darkest and spookiest holidays. Personally, my favorite way to enjoy October is by binge-watching scary movies. For those looking to take things up a notch, the horror-themed Airbnb in California’s mountains may just fit the bill.

The family-owned Unique Stays Club, the company behind the hotel, designed it to remind visitors of their favorite horror movies. The house (advertised on Airbnb as “Horror-themed Cabin! Inspired by an Old Scary Movie”) is located in the remote Sugarloaf area, not far from the beautiful Big Bear Lake in Southern California. The stunning mid-century modern interior design includes a deliberately eerie bathroom, complete with a door carved with “REDRUM” and an axe stuck in it.

Also seen in various rental videos and photos: a replica of the Necronomicon from Evil Dead; a stuffed goat head evoking The Witch; a “hacked” rotary phone spouting horror movie quotes when picked up; a Freddy Krueger sweater hanging in the closet. The apartment is also equipped to scare off visitors with eerie sounds and flashing lights, although these effects can be turned off by flipping the wall key switch labeled “Demon Banishment.”

The rental photos are truly something else:

If watching scary movies is one of the most enjoyable parts of the Halloween season, the horror cabin may just be the perfect place to watch them as it looks like a location straight out of Friday the 13th. The owners say that the rental includes a curated selection of favorite horror DVDs and live streaming.

SFGATE recently interviewed the DeRose family, who own Unique Stays Club. They point to the importance of “customization” – a trend in the industry that has rental owners getting creative to attract customers. Travis DeRose, the managing partner for the Big Bear cabin, told the outlet: “Without those features, I think we would struggle up here.” “We don’t have a view, we don’t have a Jacuzzi or a pool or any of the luxury amenities – but we have a key that triggers special effects that scare you.”

For more views of Unique Stays Club’s horror cabin, you can head to their Instagram where there are plenty of photos and videos to give you an idea of what staying with them would look like.
