How to Enhance Eloquence through Metaphor: ReFantazio
Eloquence is one of the five royal virtues in the game Metaphor: ReFantazio, and it is considered the most difficult to acquire compared to Courage, Wisdom, Tolerance, and Imagination, due to the limited opportunities available to obtain it. However, it is not impossible! In this guide, we will explain how to enhance eloquence and the benefits you receive for your efforts.
Unlocking Royal Virtues
As you progress in the game, you will automatically be able to check your “royal virtues” after certain events in the story. If you are not in a battle zone or cinematic scene, you can check how your crown is progressing towards the role of ruler.
There is no need to constantly check the virtues unless you are trying to determine the best way to spend your day. You can also review the Follower list to see if any of them display the black handshake icon, indicating the need to elevate your eloquence if you wish to speak with them.
There are also numbers next to the virtue icons that indicate the required conditions for advancement. As for eloquence, do not worry about increasing it excessively, as any increase beyond the maximum limit will automatically convert into “MAG” points that you can use later.
Reading Books
Your first opportunity to increase eloquence will come when you leave Grand Trad using the new vehicle. If you go to the rest area, you will find a small library in the back right corner.
As you progress in the game and add new characters to your team, new books will appear on the library shelves. “Pride and Persuasion” is one of the first books you will automatically receive and will be ready to read once you start your adventure.
While traveling between cities and dungeons, you can perform one activity like talking to a team member to increase friendship, cooking, cleaning, or reading a book.
Each book requires two or three sessions to complete, and upon finishing the book, you will receive a significant and free increase in your virtue statistics.
Engaging in Debates
The fastest way to increase eloquence is shortly after starting the king’s contest. Go to “King’s Rock” and find the elevated platform where someone like “Batlin” usually appears in a cinematic scene.
During the Brilehaven portion of the game, you will find some contenders for the throne ascending these platforms to deliver speeches to the crowds. These are excellent opportunities for several reasons:
- Winning the debate increases your eloquence level.
- Increases your Imagination level.
- You also receive a cash reward of 5000 reeve.
- Enjoy the satisfaction of belittling your enemies!
When you see someone on the platform, save the game and then ascend to engage in debate. You will be asked to choose a suitable response to what the opponent says. Unlike games that test your knowledge of complex subjects, the answer here is often clear. You can refer to the conversation log if needed, but choose the answer that suits your personality.
For example, if the opponent says, “Only the strong deserve to live in my society,” respond with “I believe everyone should be treated equally.”
If you do this correctly, Gallica will praise you for your great victory. And if you make a mistake, you can simply reload the game and try again! Your rewards will be a significant increase in statistics, along with some money and a sense of pride.
It is worth noting that even if there is no one to debate, you can ascend the platform to address your adoring audience, but you will not receive the Imagination or money rewards that come with full-fledged debates.
Learning from Your Friends
Reading books is not the only way to increase eloquence during your journey on the Gauntlet Runner vehicle. After leaving Brilehaven, a new character will join your team known for their eloquence.
When the vehicle stops at night, you will have the opportunity to spend some time with this character on the vehicle’s surface, helping to increase your eloquence level.
Since this method is one of the few recurring ways to increase eloquence outside of debates in cities, it is advisable to prioritize it compared to other virtues while traveling.
Attending a Theatrical Performance
If you are in the final stages of the game and have not yet reached the maximum eloquence level, it is best to attend a theatrical performance. As of the end of September, the opera theater in Altabury offers five promotional plays for Sanctist, each increasing one attribute for 1500 reeve.
In this case, you must watch the play “The Stripling and His Stewards,” which tells the story of a clever boy setting out to defeat monsters. Listening to his skillful negotiations will help improve your eloquence level by seven points.
Benefits of Eloquence
Once you reach the maximum level of the five royal virtues, you will not only be a great person but will become the “heroic embodiment of the lost heroes, [as] the descendant of a forgotten hero king.”
You will specifically gain the ability to empower other team members to access the “heroic embodiment.” To achieve this, you must first raise friendship levels with team members to the eighth level and unlock and develop the correct character archetypes for each character, a very costly process in terms of “MAG” points.
Accessing the eighth level of friendship also depends on raising your royal virtues to the maximum, as each team member requires a certain level of virtues. The final character to join your team needs a level 5 eloquence to become an eighth-level follower.
That’s all you need to know about eloquence in Metaphor: ReFantazio, and you can find more information on unlocking followers, character archetypes, and endings in other guides.
