Sony Japan Studio Continues to Decline, Prominent Name Departs Again
Over the past weeks and through a series of articles presented on the website, it was indicated that Sony Japan Studio has indeed been undergoing a series of significant and important changes and modifications, which can be noted by the departure of a group of important names within the team starting from last December.
When Sony PlayStation announced a complete restructuring of the team, several extremely prominent faces were confirmed to have exited, starting with Mr. Keiichiro Toyama, former director of the Silent Hill series at Konami, who was also involved in Gravity Rush within Sony Japan’s main team before establishing his own studio under the name Bokeh Game Studio.
In addition to a group of very important names like Teruyuki Toriyama and also Masaaki Yamagiwa, it was through recent updates mentioned by Mr. Shunsuke Saito on his Twitter account that he officially announced his departure from the team permanently.
When he stated in his message that after years of service within Sony Japan Studio, where he made a major contribution to projects like Gravity Rush 2 as the lead designer on the game for PlayStation 4, as well as several other projects during the twenty years he spent at the studio.
During his statement, he did not specify the reasons for leaving the development team, nor did he reveal his next destination, which remains unknown at this point. It’s clear that a move like this aligns with IGN’s reports in recent months indicating that Sony is aiming to completely restructure the development studio by bringing about significant changes focusing on the Astro series alongside Asobi Studio. We can expect to receive more information on this in the upcoming financial report. Best regards.
