DC Launches New Collection of Webcomics Optimized for Mobile Devices

DC Comics announced “Go Capital!” A new range of webcomics, exclusively available on the DC Universe Infinite app – the company’s official digital subscription service for web, iOS, and Android.
It is said to include “a mix of original webcomic content as well as vertically reformatted DC classics and MAD magazine.” “Go Capital!” plans to “create fun, engaging, and easy-to-read mobile DC stories that readers will enjoy on the go.”
According to DC General Manager Anne DePies, “We know fans love webcomics like Batman: Wayne Family Adventures, so the titles in the new Go Capital! collection are created to attract readers of certain genres – drama, fantasy, comedy, mystery, action, romance, slice of life, and more – so that there is a type of story that everyone can enjoy.”
Among the launch titles is Harley Quinn in Paradise by writer CRC Payne (Batman: Wayne Family Adventures) and artists Sebhan Shifawn and Cathy Lo (Archie Comics: Big Ethyl Energy); Nothing But the Back Nightwing by writer Patrick R. Young (Red Hood: Outlaws) and artist Moi R. Marco (West Coast Avengers); and The Raven’s Revival by writers Sena Grace, Nico Pasconian, Katherine Lobo, and Carola Borelli.
Harley Quinn in Paradise will see Dr. Harleen Quinzel “decide the best way to hide is to show her face on every TV in America and find true love on the top reality dating shows on television. As she “heads to the presentation island,” Quinn is “ready to be the best contestant the show has ever seen” because she is “playing to win by any means necessary.”
Meanwhile, Nothing But the Back Nightwing has Dick Grayson worried because he is “undercover as he has never been before – as a world-class fashion model!” He has caught the eyes of the audience and other models and even a few agents. But he is only looking for one thing… his enigmatic Poison Ivy partner who is trying to steal the pricey (and environmentally damaging) jewelry around the models’ necks.
Completing the lineup is The Raven’s Revival, where “the former Teen Titan is pulled through a magical gateway to the kingdom of Galonia.” Sent “hundreds of years into the past” and faced with “dealing with a gang of sorcerers and the tough choice between helping the needy or returning to their homelands.”
The company promises to attract new subscribers by giving them access to vertically reimagined releases of some of its must-have titles, including Batman: The Silence, All Star Superman, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with more on the way. So, are you excited for these vertical comic stories that you can read on your phone? While it’s said to appeal to all readers, Go Capital! launch titles seem somewhat similar, featuring a disrespectful superhero protagonist like Harley Quinn, a cheeky spy comedy focusing on Nightwing’s famous backside, and The Raven’s Revival with Raven. For kids? If you came to the capital through Vertigo comics in the ’90s or previous issues of New Gods, you may be disappointed. However, we’re curious to see what the company considers appropriate for reformatting from the crazy archives when Go Capital! starts in earnest on November 22.
