Former Days Gone developers attack Sony after revealing Ghost of Tsushima sales figures
Former Days Gone Game Developers Criticize Sony After Revealing Ghost of Tsushima Sales Figures!
In the early hours of yesterday evening and in the context of sharing various details and updates about gaming news and the gaming industry, I discussed important information revealed by the development team of the game Ghost of Tsushima.
For the first time, they shared updates about the game’s sales figures, which recently reached around 8 million copies sold worldwide. This information was widely discussed by various international websites until it reached Twitter, where the source of these details was revealed. However, the reaction to the news was somewhat surprising.
Some former developers of the exclusive game Days Gone for PlayStation 4 and PC, after its release years ago, announced their departure from Sony Bend Studio after years of service within Sony. This was due to what was described as not giving the game proper value and how the company management treated it.
These members still cannot understand why, as Sony boasts about the sales of Ghost of Tsushima reaching eight million copies sold worldwide, Jeff Ross, former director of Days Gone, stated on Twitter that their game achieved this number after just a year and a month of its release, without including PC version sales.
This may have led the game to surpass the ten million copies mark, but within the studio’s management, they always considered it a loss and not a measure of the game’s success. Days Gone can never be classified as a commercial failure; on the contrary, it was one of the best-selling exclusives during the previous PlayStation generation.
On the other hand, the game’s ratings did not exceed 71% on the Metacritic index, which is something the game’s director, John Garvin, addressed on Twitter. He explained that they had strong ideas for a second part with a breathtaking scenario and very strong events, adding that the rating standards cannot be taken into account, as the first Killzone game scored 70, but the second part scored 91.
He added that a child’s first steps before walking are to crawl, and then they can walk and finally run – something they were truly on their way to achieving. However, Sony prevented the completion of the project. It’s worth noting that Days Gone is one of the very few games that received average ratings around 71% on Metacritic, while player ratings were very high at 8.4/10 from 9,404 reviews.
This confirms that players agree with the developers’ opinions, but unfortunately, Sony halted the project years ago, and the studio is currently working on other projects for the PlayStation 5.
