Italy Becomes the First Country in the World to Ban ChatGPT Due to Its Danger

Italy has put a stop to the artificial intelligence ChatGPT, as a series of violations led to the system being banned across the region until further notice.
Although ChatGPT seems to be a highly useful tool, it appears to have gone where it shouldn’t have with the Italians, as it violated the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), collecting personal data seemingly without prior consent.
According to authorities, OpenAI has no legal basis justifying “the massive collection of personal data and storage for training ChatGPT algorithms.”
While the ban is temporary, it has begun nationwide immediately and will remain in place until investigations conclude that ChatGPT has proper permissions and complies with the General Data Protection Regulation.
As a result, OpenAI is required to report within a maximum of 20 days on the actions taken “to implement what is described” and provide “what is considered useful to justify the above-mentioned violations by ChatGPT.”
However, Italy’s decisions could impact other countries that follow suit, potentially leading to ChatGPT being banned in more countries.
Now, this news joins a letter recently signed by over 1000 technology experts, calling for a halt in advancements in this technology for at least 6 months.
Among those supporting this proposal are Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak.
