Benefits of using the Brave browser that may convince you to rely on it
There are many web browsers available for browsing the internet on a personal computer, such as Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Microsoft Edge, and many others. Due to the continuous evolution of web technologies, the companies producing these browsers constantly update them to keep up with this development. They also create stores for downloading extensions for these browsers to add additional features not available in the basic version. As a result, these browsers consume a lot of computer resources in a way that may prevent you from browsing more than one site at a time, even if you have a computer with good capabilities.
Therefore, some second-tier companies have produced less famous browsers based on the core kernel of first-tier browsers such as the Chromium kernel for Chrome and the Quantum kernel for Firefox. These companies then offer some additional features that users may need in a browser and also try to minimize computer resource consumption as much as possible without affecting browsing flexibility. One of the most prominent of these browsers is the Brave browser, which we will focus on in this article to explore the features that might make you rely on it as the main browser for your personal computer.
The Brave browser is a completely free browser developed by Brave Software and was first launched in 2016. The browser supports multiple operating systems with versions available for Windows, Mac, Linux, as well as smartphones with Android or iOS. Being built on the Chromium kernel of Chrome, it is fully compatible with all Chrome browser add-ons. If you have been using Chrome for a long time and have installed specific add-ons, you won’t notice a big difference with the Brave browser. However, since it is based on the Chrome kernel, what are the additional features that might make you use this browser?
The Brave browser offers the ability to block ads and tracking by websites integrated into the browser without the need to install any add-ons. Just click on the Customize and Control menu (an icon consisting of 3 horizontal lines in the top right of the browser), then Settings, then click on Shields in the side menu. You will find several great options, such as blocking tracking by websites, upgrading the connection to HTTPS for more security and data privacy, disabling Cookies to prevent websites from creating data storage files on your computer.
You can also quickly enable and disable these options when opening a specific website by clicking on the lion icon or Shields next to the main address bar. You will also find all the data related to ads, tracking, and scripts on the website you are currently browsing, where you can control all the options more quickly.
Lower computer resource consumption
When using the Brave browser, you won’t feel a significant slowdown when opening multiple tabs for browsing, as is the case with other browsers. The browser disables unused tabs to reduce computer resource usage during browsing and does not affect the performance of other programs.
Torrent downloading without the need for external programs
Many of us download files using the popular torrent system due to the high download speed. Typically, you need to install an external program called Torrent Client to download the torrent file. However, the Brave browser has a built-in tool for downloading torrent files without the need for external programs. Just click on a torrent file to download it, and the browser will open a new tab with the file name and the option to start downloading the torrent file directly within the browser or save the file in case you prefer to use an external Torrent Client program.
Dark Mode
Many software programs have recently added dark mode to their theme options for aesthetic appeal and eye comfort, especially for long-term use. Fortunately, the Brave browser supports dark mode. Just click on the Customize and Control menu in the top right of the browser, then Settings, and in the Appearance section, you will find various options under Theme, including the ability to enable dark mode.
Opening a tab with TOR support
Privacy is crucial when browsing the internet. Many browsers support opening a new tab or browsing in private or incognito mode, which simply prevents the browser from saving any data during browsing. The TOR browser is known for its security, privacy, and encrypted connection to prevent service providers or anyone else from tracking your browsing information.
The Brave browser allows you to open a new tab with TOR support. Just click on the Customize and Control menu in the top right of the browser, then select New private Window With TOR, and the browser will immediately open a new window for browsing with TOR support to maximize privacy and security.
Disabling auto-play for videos
While browsing social media sites, you may come across some videos that play automatically, which can be distracting or annoying. Although these sites can be disabled from playing videos automatically, the Brave browser allows you to block autoplay for all websites with the option to add sites to the exceptions list or disable the feature whenever you want.
Just click on the Customize and Control menu in the top right of the browser, then Settings, then click on Additional Settings, then Privacy And Security, then Site Settings. By clicking on Auto-play, you can adjust video playback settings by enabling the feature first. You can add sites to the Block list and others to the Allow list. If the page contains any video clips, an icon will appear next to the main address bar that allows you to allow the video to play automatically when clicked.
Data synchronization via QR Code
Many browsers support syncing user data, especially when there are multiple versions of the browser on different operating systems. Data synchronization is done through the user’s account on the browser, which syncs data across different systems. The Brave browser supports synchronization very easily by creating a code that can be scanned with a phone after installing the Brave browser to sync all the data.
Just click on the Customize and Control menu in the top right of the browser, then Sync, then Start a new sync Chain if you want to sync the computer to another device, then select the type of the other device, whether phone or computer. The browser will display a QR code to be scanned with the phone to transfer the data or a text code to be entered on the other computer to sync all browsing data to the other device.
Support for Chrome extensions
As mentioned earlier, the Brave browser supports Chrome extensions. If you want to install a specific extension, simply click on the Customize and Control menu in the top right of the browser, then More Tools. The installed extensions will be displayed with the option to disable or enable them. Click on Web Store to open the Chrome extensions store and install any extension you desire.
Support for content creators
The creators of the Brave browser have started a project called Brave Rewards to support content creators by granting users BAT electronic coins for browsing and viewing ads. Users are required to reward content creators on websites like YouTube with these coins as an incentive for providing content and supporting content creators to enhance the content they provide.
