ASUS officially unveils the ROG Ally gaming laptop
ASUS announced through its well-known brand (ROG) Republic of Gamers about the ROG Ally platform, which is a gaming handheld device – similar to the “Nintendo Switch” or Valve’s “Steam Deck” – with powerful specifications that ensure an exceptional gaming experience for gamers, regardless of time and place! The device is based on the Windows 11 operating system and powered by the advanced AMD Ryzen Z1 processor, giving Ally the ability to smoothly run AAA games and independent titles. It comes with a bright touchscreen display with a high refresh rate, allowing players to see their content clearly even when gaming outdoors. Carrying and handling Ally throughout the day is made easy, thanks to its lightweight design weighing 608 grams and comfortable hand grips. ROG Ally has many details, let’s share them with you below.
The ROG Ally device was announced on April 1st, which made some people think it was an “April Fools’ joke,” but ASUS confirmed that it’s not a joke, and today they give us an initial insight into some additional details about it, including more specifications and the official release date.
Primarily, ROG Ally features a comfortable and lightweight design as a gaming handheld device. ROG engineers painstakingly crafted and refined the shape and weight of Ally ROG until they were satisfied with their design for a perfect device for carrying and playing all day long. Weighing only 608 grams, Ally will never be a burden in the player’s backpack or hands, allowing for comfortable and continuous gameplay. Ally platform continues to use hand grips, with a unique triangle-shaped texture on the back that gives players a strong grip on the device from any angle. The design lines of ROG adorn the palm rest side of the grip, while also helping to reduce any lateral slippage.
With a completely new APU unit designed for this purpose – an AMD Ryzen Z1 processor equipped with RDNA 3 graphics – the new ROG Ally gaming handheld device is equipped to deliver unparalleled levels of performance for mobile gaming, whether light games or visually demanding AAA games, ROG Ally is unstoppable! This is also made possible by ROG’s innovative Zero Gravity thermal system, which uses a dual-fan cooling system with ultra-thin heat dissipation fins and high-friction heat pipes to ensure the device stays cool at almost all times.
Leading gaming performance requires a powerful screen to match, and Ally doesn’t disappoint as it comes with a 120Hz FHD (1080 pixels) display with FreeSync Premium technology support, allowing players to enjoy smooth and ultra-clear motion in fast-paced games, without tearing or stuttering in low frame rate situations. The screen also boasts a maximum brightness of 500 nits, allowing players to continue gaming outdoors under the sun with ease. This touchscreen also enables smooth navigation within the Windows environment when players need to change settings or install a new game, as the system responds to every touch accurately as if using a mouse.
All Windows 11 Games Will Work on ROG Ally
The ROG Ally gaming device relies on the latest version of the Windows operating system, Windows 11, which means that players can access all known games designed to work on Windows system in general, in addition to accessing gaming platforms, all through one device. Simply put, ROG Ally can be seen as a Nintendo Switch on the surface, but it is mini Windows laptop at heart! You can easily navigate the Windows desktop and get a smooth response to commands, either through the control buttons on both sides of Ally or through the touchscreen.
Additionally, ASUS provides strong software support in the form of a specialized version for the ROG Ally device of the Armory Crate control application, through which users can customize cooling methods, switch between quick performance mode and game mode, activate in-game performance monitoring tool, Aura Sync support, and more. ROG also offers a 90-day trial version of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate gaming streaming service, giving users instant access to hundreds of great games from Xbox Game Studios and popular independent studios once Ally is turned on.
