Snapchat founder mocks Facebook and expresses anger over Facebook stealing features from his app

Evan Spiegel, the founder of Snapchat, mocked Facebook for the recent data leak of millions of users, known as the Cambridge Analytica scandal. He delivered a fiery speech, suggesting that Facebook should emulate his platform’s user privacy policies. He expressed his delight in Facebook recognizing the importance of Snapchat’s unique design and features, which were later copied in Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and even Facebook’s main app.
Evan Spiegel mentioned that Snapchat is not just a collection of features, but also embodies principles and offers different values. It is an interactive and social platform for users to connect with friends around the world, while Facebook focuses heavily on competition among its users to gain likes and interests from others. Following this speech, Alex Stamos, the Chief Security Officer at Facebook, responded on Twitter, stating that Snapchat’s self-destructing message feature violates user privacy and has led to a massive leak of user photos due to the app’s weak security interface. Therefore, imitating Snapchat’s policies is not a wise decision.
