Xiaomi introduces full-screen fingerprint reader: Place your finger anywhere on the screen to unlock the phone.

Xiaomi is one of the fastest-growing brands in the smartphone market in recent years, and has recently announced a significant investment for the coming years in research and development. Xiaomi has been granted a patent for an interesting system to achieve its mission, where the user can place their finger anywhere on the screen to unlock the device later.

What is being offered does not mean that phones equipped with this technology will have a huge fingerprint reader covering the entire screen, but infrared sensors will be used all over the screen, which when the finger is recognized will be reflected on the fingerprint reader for comparison later. This reflection is made with a copy of your fingerprint or fingerprints stored on the device.

As it is a patent, it is still difficult to know the success this technology can have. Another important detail is that being a patent does not necessarily mean that the company already has plans to launch a phone with this technology in the short term, as patents are often filed multiple times to prevent direct competitors from using similar technology in their phones.
