Ten years of scientific studies now confirm that mobile phones do not cause cancer.

During the past decades, thousands of studies have been conducted trying to find evidence of the relationship between mobile phone use and cancer. Therefore, the FDA reviewed the last 11 years of studies attempting to find a connection, and confirmed what we already knew: there is no evidence that cell phones cause cancer.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for regulating products such as food or drugs in the United States, determining which are safe for sale, use, and consumption. Therefore, they decided to analyze all studies related to mobile phones between the years 2008 and 2019.

After analyzing them, they confirm that “there are no harmful effects on human health when exposed to mobile phones.” These limits refer to the SAR radiation emitted by mobile phones, and therefore they will not adjust the limits set by the Federal Communications Commission as they are “acceptable for protecting public health.”

On the other hand, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently reported that 5G is safe, dispelling doubts raised by some groups. These groups claimed that millimeter waves could negatively affect humans, but they remain non-ionizing radiation with no negative effects on the body as they cannot produce changes in DNA.

In the past, the FCC also asked the FDA for an opinion on safe wireless frequency levels for 5G. In one study they analyzed at that time, harmful effects were found in mice when using 3G. The problem is that the methodology used in this study does not apply to the way we use mobile phones, as the radiation was 75 times higher than what we are exposed to daily.

Although current evidence suggests that mobile phone networks do not cause cancer and that 5G is safe because it uses frequencies proven to be safe in the studies analyzed, the FDA will continue to monitor the potential impact of 5G on health upon its launch.
