5 Ways to Enhance the Sound Quality of the New Apple AirPods Pro
The new Apple AirPods Pro were released late last year in 2019 and have been a huge success. We discussed their exciting features compared to the previous version of AirPods. We also talked about the common issues with these wireless earbuds and how to fix them.
Despite the success they have achieved, some users have reported issues such as low sound quality, noise, and poor performance while using them. That’s why we have gathered all available methods to improve the sound of your AirPods Pro so you can get the maximum benefit from your new earbuds.
1. Update Your AirPods
The first method to improve the sound on AirPods Pro is to make sure they are updated. Apple releases updates for AirPods sometimes to improve sound quality. You may not have noticed it as it is set up for automatic updates, but you can also manually check for updates. Here’s how:
Start by making sure the AirPods are in their charging case and connected or wirelessly charging. Ensure your device is connected to the internet. Keep the AirPods Pro close to or connected to your iPhone. It should now update automatically, and depending on the update, the sound quality should improve.

2. Turn Off ANC
Surprisingly, one of the best ways to improve sound quality on your AirPods Pro is to turn off Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). This doesn’t mean you have to turn on Transparency Mode – you want to completely turn off the mode. The active noise cancellation actually reduces sound quality due to the intensive sound processing happening behind the scenes.
Open Control Center by swiping down from the upper right corner on an iPhone X and newer versions or an iPad running iOS 12 or newer. Long press on the volume bar showing AirPods Pro inside and select Off mode in the middle.
3. Test Ear Tip Fit
If the sound issue persists, it may be due to the ear tips not sealing your ears properly. Fortunately, there’s a quick way to know the size (small, medium, or large) that fits you best. The company provides an Ear Tip Fit Test on the device that allows you to determine the ear tip size that keeps the sound from leaking out of or into the ears.
To perform the test, connect the earbuds to your device, then open Settings and go to Bluetooth. Select the earbuds and scroll down to Ear Tip Fit Test. Follow the steps, and during the test, you will hear some music to determine the best sound output. Hopefully, you now have a good idea of the ear tip size that suits you.
4. Reset Sound Equalizer
Depending on the music streaming service you use, you can adjust EQ settings to significantly enhance sound quality and create a more powerful sound. Here’s how to do it through two of the most popular music streaming apps. First in Spotify: Open the app, tap on the settings icon, select Playback, and go to Equalizer. Adjust the levels as per your preference.
Secondly, to adjust EQ in Apple Music: Go to the Settings app on your phone, scroll down to Music, and select EQ from the menu. Choose the EQ setting you want, for example, choose Bass Booster if you are still facing issues with bass, to get the desired sound quality.

5. Improve Sound Quality
Did you know that you may not be getting the best possible music quality from your music streaming app? Luckily, it’s easy to change these settings based on the service you use. We will look at how to do this on Spotify only for now, as Apple Music does not have a quality selection feature yet.
Open Spotify, tap on the settings icon, and then you need to select Music Quality. You can then choose between High or Very High quality. After changing this setting, your music should sound clearer. However, note that this may have a negative impact on the amount of data used by Spotify. Consider changing this only when using Wi-Fi if you need to save data.
