3 New PS Plus Games You Must Play This Weekend (October 18-20)
It’s mid-month, so another batch of games has just arrived in the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog. There’s a strong mix of spooky games just in time for Halloween and hidden gems in the libraries of PS4, PS5, and PSVR2 that are worth your time. If you’re wondering what to play this weekend, I can safely say that you’ll have a great time with any of these three games.
Dead Island 2
Zombie games can be hard to stand out due to the abundance of them. Dead Island 2 had the disadvantage of being infamous for constantly being delayed and having developers change during development. It was finally released after almost seven years since its initial announcement. Despite those development issues, Dambuster and Deep Silver’s Dead Island 2 is a remarkably strong action game. It stands out for its particularly sickening combat and unusually detailed dismemberment system. Dead Island 2 is a game suitable to play before Halloween and is definitely the main game of the PS Plus Extra add-on for October.
PS4 and PS5 versions of Dead Island 2 are available with a PS Plus Extra subscription. It is also available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S through Xbox Game Pass.
Gris
Earlier this week, Nomada Studio and Devolver Digital released Gris, a beautiful and emotional two-dimensional platformer. If you enjoyed this game, you should check out its predecessor, Gris. It’s an equally emotional adventure revolving around a young woman dealing with feelings of depression, sorrow, and grief. Although the platforming gameplay is very simple, Gris’s stunning visuals and wonderful work in evoking the appropriate emotion for each scene. If you decide to check out Gris, it will be a gaming experience you won’t forget anytime soon.
PS4 and PS5 versions of Gris are available through PS Plus Extra. It is also available on Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, iOS, and Android.
The Last Clockwinder
Sony is throwing a bone to PS Plus Premium subscribers this month with the addition of The Last Clockwinder to the service’s small virtual reality puzzle game catalog. Thankfully, this is a fantastic addition as The Last Clockwinder is one of the best virtual reality puzzle games available. All of its puzzles are designed around the fact that players can record their actions and then create clones to perform them to help solve the puzzle. Like the best puzzle games, its solutions are Rube Goldberg machines that may be hard to analyze at first, but its solving is satisfyingly humorous. It’s a game that anyone with a VR headset must play.
The PlayStation VR2 version of The Last Clockwinder is now part of the PS Plus Premium VR catalog. It is also available for PC, Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro.
