10 Halloween Outfits Prepped and Truly Wonderful
Is your wardrobe ready for tricks and treats? At this time of year, io9 takes a look at the most popular costumes being sold on the biggest seasonal websites. For the year 2024, we’re seeing a lot of Beetlejuice, a lot of Deadpool, and a huge amount of Minions – along with these ten picks that gave us a stifled laugh due to their audacity or shock value.
Count Von Count
Vampires are never far from pop culture, and lately the mood has been all about What We Do in the Shadows, Interview with a Vampire, Salem’s Lot, and Nosferatu, the sharp-toothed Sesame Street man who loves math (and presumably drinks blood?). You can get this officially licensed costume, which includes the jacket, cape, ascot, and mask, for $60 at Spirit Halloween.
Ecto-1
It lights up, it’s inflatable, it’s officially licensed, and it’s the best way to zip around New York City on your way to catching the next rogue ghost. The downside: it does not come with a Ghostbusters suit, so you’ll have to build that part yourself. (But it does come with batteries). The Ecto-1 costs up to $60 at Spirit Halloween. There’s also a kids’ version for $50.
Bloody Art the Clown
You can also get this in a non-bloody version, but do you have vision of any of the terrifying movies, especially the latest hit Terrifier 3? I’m sure plenty of folks have because Art the Clown costumes and the kids’ version are completely sold out at Spirit Halloween online. For what it’s worth, you’ll need to provide your own knife with this – or live rats, or a saw, or a saw, etc. And if your heart is set on the art, you can still get the full face mask for $70.
Godzilla Pet Costume
Unfortunately, the adult inflatable Godzilla costume has been sold out on Godzilla.com, but you can still grab the dog version to turn your furry friend into the King of All Kaiju. It’ll cost you $30 and is supposed to come with a handful of candy while snapping pictures of Rover roaming through the mini cityscape. It comes in multiple sizes, so if you have an especially patient cat, you can also try Catzilla.
Disgust
Is this a Mindy Kaling or a Lisa Labrador from the movie Disgust? It’s up to you to decide, though this costume ($85-100) is currently sold on HalloweenCostumes.com. If you’re looking to design a costume for Ennui – who doesn’t have a pre-made costume displayed, despite being wracked with “prevailing emotions in our age” – HalloweenCostumes.com has a whole range of purple wigs. Just saying.
Animal
This tribute to the most chaotic dolls in existence is still on pre-order – HalloweenCostumes.com estimates it will ship in “late October,” which may cut it close for Halloween parties. However, imagine the sheer joy it will bring to the crowds if you show up wearing this fabulous costume. (It appears drumsticks are not included).
Chestburster
This space creature costume comes with the shirt, pants, and belt; you present a painful horror look mixed with the realization that you really shouldn’t put your face anywhere near that strange egg hatching on an alien planet in deep space. $60-90 on HalloweenCostumes.com.
Dress
The inevitable meme from 2015 is still around – whether intentionally referencing Colin Robinson in the new season of What We Do in the Shadows, and what looks like a surprisingly comfortable “sexy” outfit (priced at $41 for sale) on Yandy.com.
“What’s the Word”
We can all agree that this is actually “Sexy Wordle,” carefully renamed by Yandy.com ($50 for sale) to avoid angering any potentially controversial media companies. High-necked shoes not included, but as you can see, there are a number of five-letter words interwoven in the outfit that could help solve today’s puzzle. Try it and on top of that, sexy Lydia Deetz (or any number of other lively characters you can find on Yandy)!
Scooby-Doo Toilet
Let’s never forget that we live in a society. This inflatable nightmare comes in one version – “one size fits all” for kids – and will cost you $45 at Spirit Halloween.
